The 18th Paris Map Fair Will Be Held on November 9

- by Michael Stillman

The 18th Paris Map, Instruments & Globes Fair will be held on November 9 in, you guessed it, Paris, France. It will bring dealers in the map field from all over the world to one of the world's favorite places to visit. If you were looking for an excuse to go to Paris, you now have one.

Doors will open on Saturday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m., and will remain open until 6:00 p.m. There is no entry fee. The fair will be held at the historic Hôtel Ambassador, 16 Bd Haussmann, “in the heart of Paris.” The fair organizers note that it is just 2 minutes from the Opera Garnier and major department stores. Save your shopping until after the fair to see how much money you have left.

Some of the items that will be offered at the fair are antique maps, atlases, globes, scientific instruments, and travel books. Among the participants, traveling all the way from America are Barry Lawrence Ruderman Antique Maps, Neatline Antique Maps, Geographicus Rare Antique Maps, and Paulus Swaen. Those coming from England include Daniel Crouch Rare Books, Altea Antique Maps, and Clive A. Burden Ltd. From continental Europe there are too many to mention, and even a dealer is coming all the way from South Korea. There are 38 international map dealers in all. The organizers are Librairie Loeb-Larocque and Le Zograscope of Paris.

Along with offering material for sale, free estimates will be provided for your maps, atlases, globes, and instruments.

There will also be a cocktail reception held the night before the fair. It will be open to visitors as well as dealers. It starts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, at Salle Mogador in the Ambassador Hotel. It will run for one hour. Reservations are required.

If you are looking for a place to stay, there is no place closer than the Hotel Ambassador itself. It is now part of Marriott Hotels so be sure to bring your rewards number.

To learn more about the fair, make your reservations for the cocktail reception, or view the joint catalogue, you can visit the fair's website at map-fair.com, or if you prefer to read it in English, you can go to map-fair.com/english-version.html.
