The ABAA at Christ Church in New York

The ABAA recently hosted a one-day book fair at the Christ Church at Park and 60th in New York City in conjunction with the Grolier Club’s annual bibliography week.  The event was held on Friday January 24th.  Thirty-one ABAA members participated.

According to Susan Benne, Director of the ABAA, this event, one of several the ABAA runs during the year, are more about meeting prospective and active clients than they are about making sales.  Nevertheless some did well.

Donald Heald, a leading antiquarian dealer and show savant is the only known person who is participating in all 4 of the January-February book and map fairs –

The ABAA Fair at Christ Church on Friday January 24th

The San Francisco Book and Ephemera Fair on February 1st and 2nd

The 3-day ABAA Fair at Pasadena on February 7-9

The Miami Map Fair 7-9

“I enjoy this fair.  It’s about 10 blocks from my office and 30 seconds away from the Grolier Club and a single day from 10 to 4, less about selling than it is about socializing.  I brought thought provoking things for after all this is a very smart crowd.”

This is Don’s third participation in this Grolier-related event and next year will be his fourth.  “I’ll be back next year.”
